Home Frit' Home welcomes Jean-Claude Salemi for an exhibition filled with humor, popular heritage, and urban life: "Bienvenue chez nous ." Let yourself be swept away by the poetic imagery of this leading Brussels artist. Join us for a cheerful opening on Friday, October 3 (6pm-10pm), right in the heart of "Parcours 1190," with a little help from Cuvée des Trolls!
"Bienvenue chez nous ." The invitation brings a smile and invites reflection, confronting us with our little pleasures and a touch of mischief. Etching and drawing — in both color and black and white — promise a city stroll through Brussels' friendly spots: cafés, grocery stores, fairs, fritkots, cycling races, campsites… with a few stops along the canal or on a highway due to breakdowns.
Jean-Claude Salemi is a versatile Belgian artist: illustrator, poster designer, engraver, author, and musician. His career — marked by passions for cycling, popular culture, and swing music — has spanned several decades between Liège and Brussels. In 1986, he co-founded Atelier Razkas with Anne-Catherine Van Santen, a Brussels-based collective of engravers and printers. Among Salemi’s most recent exhibitions are his participation in the “Jazz and Comics” event at the Belgian Comic Strip Center (Brussels, 2024) and at the Triennial of Printmaking (Liège, 2024 and 2025), Galerie Churchill, Liège.
Jean-Claude Salemi’s exhibition at Home Frit’ Home, at the heart of the Micro Fry Museum Brussels, takes on a special dimension with the knowledge that he has been immortalizing Belgian ‘fritkot culture’ for decades, through photography, drawing, and engraving; many of his creations have joined the collections of the Micro Fry Museum Brussels. This passion started very early! In the early 2000s, at Paul Ilegems’ invitation, Salemi exhibited at the iconic Frietkotmuseum on the upper floor of the famous Fritkot Max, Groenplaats, Antwerp. In doing so, Salemi places himself in the historical lineage of Belgium’s very first “Museum of the Frite,” which was originally itinerant and started in the early 1980s at the initiative of mail-artist Jaak De Koninck and Paul Ilegems under the banner of F.A.R. (Frites Art Research).
